      Frequently Asked Questions

Why not just carry a regular first aid kit for my dog?

Human kits are not stocked for canine trauma. This IFAK was designed for working dogs and their handlers, with contents curated to stabilize a dog until you reach veterinary care — including full bleeding control supplies in the Advanced option.

What's the difference between the Basic and Advanced kits?

Yes — every trauma kit includes the same medical-grade supplies trusted by first responders, law enforcement, and military medics. From CAT® tourniquets to hemostatic gauze and HyFin® chest seals, our gear isn’t imitation-grade — it’s built for real emergencies, where performance matters most. The Basic covers wound care and general trauma management. The Advanced adds a tourniquet, vented chest seal, and compressed gauze for full bleeding control on serious injuries. Both are compact, field-ready, and easy to store or carry.

Do I need training to use it, and is it HSA/FSA eligible?

Canine first aid training is strongly recommended — applying a tourniquet or chest seal to a dog takes practice, and your veterinarian can point you to a course. HSA/FSA funds generally apply to human medical care, and plans handle pet-focused kits differently — confirm with your plan administrator before purchasing.

Do I need training to use trauma components (tourniquet, chest seal, hemostatics)?

      Yes—skills plus gear save time in times of crisis. We recommend Stop the Bleed/bleeding-control and basic first aid;

While basic trauma kits can be used effectively with minimal training, it’s highly recommended to complete a bleeding control and first aid course.

Why should I invest in a trauma kit instead of building my own?

Building your own kit is possible, but it’s often more expensive and time-consuming. Our trauma kits are curated by experts and built from experience, using components from industry-leading suppliers or built by U.S. based, trusted brands.

Each kit includes tested, field-proven gear, already organized for real-world use. You save time, eliminate guesswork, and gain peace of mind knowing your kit is mission-ready from day one.

How quickly can my trauma kit ship, and what’s the return policy?

We typically process each order within 1–2 business days, and all kits are backed by our quality guarantee. If your kit arrives damaged or incomplete, we’ll replace it immediately. We stand behind every product we sell because we know when it counts, your gear needs to perform flawlessly.

Can I customize a kit for my department or unit (bulk, POs, tax-exempt)?

Absolutely. We can adjust contents, packaging, and quantities; we support quotes/POs and department procurement. Use the RFQ link for fast scoping aligned to your SOPs and training, or click here.

The K-9 IFAK built for working dogs — staged where you need it, ready when it counts.

The Elite First Aid K-9 IFAK is a purpose-built canine individual first aid kit designed for police K-9 handlers, military working dog teams, hunters, and serious field dog owners. It mounts directly to your belt or MOLLE platform, opens fast under stress, and carries the supplies most likely to matter in a real canine emergency — from lacerations and punctures to severe bleeding.

What It Is — and What It Isn't

It is: A field-staged canine first aid and trauma kit designed for rapid access during patrol, hunting, or backcountry use. The Advanced version includes bleeding control tools (tourniquet, chest seal, compressed gauze) alongside a full wound care base.

It isn't: A veterinary treatment system or a substitute for professional veterinary care. This kit supports initial stabilization and wound management until your dog can reach a vet.

      Who It's For

      • Police K-9 & Military Working Dog Handlers — Advanced kit staged on belt or vest for rapid access during patrol or tactical operations
      • Hunters & Field Dog Owners — Compact kit for hunting vests and packs; covers the most common field injuries for bird dogs, hounds, and working dogs in rough terrain
      • Hikers, Backpackers & Pet Owners — Basic kit for families and outdoor enthusiasts who want dedicated canine first aid supplies in the vehicle, on trail, or at home

      Choose Your Version

Advanced — $94.99 Adds bleeding control to the full first aid base. Includes windlass tourniquet, vented chest seal, and Z-folded compressed gauze. Best for police K-9, military working dogs, hunting, and high-risk field operations.

Basic — $54.99 A capable canine first aid kit covering wound care, airway support, and general trauma basics. Well-suited for hikers, hunters, and pet owners who want a compact, field-ready kit.

Both versions use the same durable MOLLE-compatible nylon pouch with two belt-attachment straps (fits up to 5" wide) and YKK zippers throughout.

      What You Get

      Pouch specs (both versions):

      • Weight: 1.25 lb | Dimensions: 3.5" × 6" × 8"

      • 1x Z-Folded Compressed Gauze

      Both kits include:

How to Stage and Use It

      1. Mount it — Attach to your MOLLE vest, duty belt, or pack using the integrated straps. Keep it on the same side every time so you can access it without looking.
      2. Inspect it — Check contents quarterly or after any use. Replace any opened or expired items before your next deployment or trip.
      3. Know your kit — Review the included Pet First Aid Guide before you need it. Familiarize yourself with tourniquet application on a canine limb.
      4. Use it — Open, treat, stabilize. Get your dog to a veterinarian as quickly as possible after any serious injury.

      Your Questions, Answered.

"Is $94.99 worth it for a dog kit?" The Advanced kit includes a windlass tourniquet and vented chest seal — the same categories of tools carried for human trauma. If your dog works in the field or on patrol, the cost of not having them is higher than the kit.

"Will this actually fit my setup?" The pouch fits belts up to 5" wide and is MOLLE-compatible. At 3.5" × 6" × 8" and 1.25 lb, it's sized to ride on a duty belt or vest without interfering with your kit.

"I'm not a medic — can I actually use this?" The Basic kit is straightforward wound care. The Advanced kit adds tools that require some familiarity — the included Pet First Aid Guide covers the basics, and we recommend a canine first aid course if you're deploying the Advanced version regularly.

"What if I just need the basics?" The Basic version at $54.99 covers wound care, antiseptics, bandaging, and canine-specific items like a muzzle and allergy tablets. It's a solid starting point for most pet owners and casual field users.

"Is this made in the USA?" Yes. Both versions are manufactured by Elite First Aid in the USA.

      FAQs

Q: What's the difference between the Basic and Advanced versions? The Advanced adds a windlass tourniquet, vented chest seal, and Z-folded compressed gauze to the full Basic contents. If your dog is in a working or hunting environment where penetrating trauma or severe bleeding is a realistic risk, choose Advanced.

Q: Is this kit right for my pet dog at home? The Basic version is well-suited for pet owners who want dedicated canine first aid supplies at home, in the car, or on trail. The Advanced version is designed for working and field dogs in higher-risk environments.

Q: Will the pouch fit my duty belt or plate carrier? Yes. The pouch is MOLLE-compatible and includes two belt-attachment straps that fit belts up to 5" wide. It measures 3.5" × 6" × 8" and weighs 1.25 lb fully loaded.

Q: How durable is the pouch? The pouch is made from nylon with YKK zippers throughout — the same zipper standard used in quality tactical and outdoor gear. It's built for field use, not just storage.

Q: Can I restock individual items after use? Yes. The contents are standard medical supply items. Most can be restocked through medical supply retailers. Check the included guide for item specifications.

Q: Does this replace veterinary care? No. This kit is for initial stabilization and wound management in the field — not treatment. Get your dog to a licensed veterinarian as quickly as possible after any serious injury.

Q: What colors are available? Both versions are available in Black, Olive Drab, Red, and Tan.

Q: Where is this made? Both versions are manufactured in the USA by Elite First Aid.
