Build a Kit That
ActuallySaves Lives.

Most first aid kits handle minor cuts. The emergencies that change outcomes are different — severe bleeding, airway problems, burns, and fractures. This free checklist, built by U.S. Army veterans, tells you exactly what to buy, what order to build in, and how to tailor it for your life.

The Hard Truth

Why Most DIY First Aid Kits Won't Help When It Counts

We've seen what happens when people build kits with the wrong components, organize them poorly, or skip the maintenance. Here's where most DIY kits fall apart.

01

Missing the Items That Actually Stop Death

Adhesive bandages and antiseptic wipes don't stop severe hemorrhage. The number one cause of preventable death from traumatic injury is uncontrolled bleeding — and most shelf kits aren't built to address it. A windlass tourniquet and hemostatic gauze are non-negotiable.

02

Disorganized for High-Stress Deployment

Fine motor skills degrade under adrenaline. If the tourniquet is buried under 40 other items, you will not find it in time. Organization is functional, not cosmetic. Life-saving items go on top, labeled, accessible. The checklist shows you how.

03

Built Once, Never Maintained

Medications expire. Sterile items open. Ointments dry out. A kit that isn't inspected every 6 months is a kit that will fail you. The PDF includes an inspection checklist and tells you exactly which items to replace and when.

How It Works

Build in Layers. Start With What You Have.

The checklist is designed so you can build your kit in stages — not everything at once. Start with the core, add trauma capability, then layer in what matches your environment.

1

Start With Layer 1 — Basic Core

Wound care, antiseptics, tools, OTC medications. Every kit needs this foundation regardless of purpose or environment.

2

Add Layer 2 — Trauma Core

Windlass tourniquet, hemostatic gauze, pressure dressing, vented chest seals. Add this if you want to be ready for bad days. Training strongly recommended.

3

Pick Your Layer 3 Add-On(s)

Vehicle, Range, Outdoors, Home, EDC, Travel, or Pets. Add one or more based on where you spend time and what risks you're most likely to face.

4

Pack for Access, Inspect Every 6 Months

Life-saving items go on top, labeled. Set a calendar reminder to inspect and replace expired or depleted items. The PDF walks you through this.
